2021 Ford Bronco Sport Review

2021 Ford Bronco Sport Review

The Ford Bronco is a big, bold, off-road-ready SUV that's just as happy on the trail as the highway. But not everyone wants or needs such a large SUV, and the Bronco Sport takes all the rugged qualities of its bigger sibling and repackages them in a compact crossover form that perfectly blends capability and convenience. Could this all-new model be the ideal SUV for you? Read our 2021 Ford Bronco Sport review to find out.

Powertrain and Performance

The Bronco Sport is based around the same engineering as the popular Ford Escape. All models in the lineup feature all-wheel drive as standard, alongside an eight-speed automatic transmission, but there's a choice of two engines.

At the entry level, a 1.5L turbo gas mill makes 181 horsepower and 190lb-ft of torque, offering a great compromise between power and fuel economy. However, to make the most of the Bronco Sport's off-road capabilities, upgrading to the 2.0L turbo-four engine brings an impressive 245 horsepower and 270lb-ft, pushing the SUV into new levels of performance for a compact crossover. And what's more, with the more powerful engine the transmission is also upgraded to provide paddle shifters mounted on the steering-wheel.

Cargo and Towing Capacity

The Bronco Sport offers plenty of cargo space for hauling your gear into the wilderness, with 906L available behind the second row and fully 1,840L with the rear seats folded. And if that's not enough, the 2.0L turbo models have a towing capacity of up to 1,000kg, increasing the compact SUV's versatility.

Fuel Economy

Considering the Bronco Sport's power and genuine off-road credentials, fuel economy ratings are highly respectable. The entry-level engine delivers figures of 9.4L / 100km in the city and 8.4L / 100km on the highway, while the meatier 2.0L mill turns in city / highway ratings of 11.2L and 9.0L.

Advanced Infotainment Technology

The Bronco Sport's impressive standard of features continues into the infotainment section, with every model in the lineup boasting an 8" touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Navigation and a high-end Bang & Olufsen audio system are optional upgrades, while for those who prefer tactile operation, a selection of buttons and rotary dials can be used instead of the touchscreen.

Safety and Driver Assist Systems

The 2021 Bronco Sport is equipped with the advanced Ford Co-Pilot 360 suite of driver assist and safety systems, with standard highlights including:

- Evasive steering assist.

- Forward collision warnings with pedestrian detection and automated emergency braking.

- Blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts.

- Lane departure warnings and lane keeping assist.

- Automatic high beams.

- Available adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology.
